Vienna, Austria, 4th September 2023

For the seventh consecutive year, the Innovation in Politics Institute has officially opened the application process for its annual Awards programme. Against the backdrop of mounting challenges in politics, economics, and climate across Europe, the Innovation in Politics Awards recognise innovators across Europe who are creating a more democratic, inclusive and sustainable future for their community, region or country.

Open call for Europe’s changemakers in politics and society

Initiatives and projects from all member states of the Council of Europe are invited to submit their entries for the 2024 Innovation in Politics Awards before the application deadline on 19th November 2023.
Entrants stand the opportunity to excel in one of eight categories, which include (1) Democracy, (2) Climate Protection, (3) Democracy Technologies, (4) Education, (5) Government Improvement, (6) Social Cohesion, (7) Local Development, and (8) Party Innovation.

The voice of citizens shapes the future

A Europe-wide Citizens’ Jury of 1,000 members will select ten finalists and one winner for each category. The competition will culminate in an exclusive gala ceremony with all finalists and winners, scheduled for April 2024 in Barcelona, the first European Capital of Democracy.

In addition to their well-deserved recognition, the winners will gain access to a prominent platform, enabling them to showcase their remarkable achievements and expand their networks with new connections.

Since its launch in 2017, the Innovation in Politics Awards have recognised and celebrated the contributions of 650 innovators selected by more than 5,000 citizen jurors.

Edward Strasser, CEO of the Innovation in Politics Institute, said:

“In these times of multiple crises and reasons for pessimism, it is crucial to display that democracy is vital and delivers! With the Innovation in Politics Awards, we shine a light on those politicians who prove that in their everyday work for communes and communities and inspire others to help build trust in their work and in democracy.”
